How to setup a new computer so it isn't shit~

Windows Version:

  • NOTE: If at any point you get asked for a license key you can use this dummy one:
    Windows Version Edition Product Key
    Windows 11 Enterprise XGVPP-NMH47-7TTHJ-W3FW7-8HV2C
  • Then once you've actually installed Windows to actually activate it:
    • Go here https://000.01x2.org/windows2, copy everything on that page

      Open Powershell as Admin, paste it, enter. Press Option #1, wait. After it's done close it.

USB Prep:

rufus-4.15p.exe Portable Windows x64 1.9 MB 2026.06.30

  • Get a USB 8GB or bigger that you don't care to wipe, plug it in and then open Rufus. Select the .iso file you downloaded, all the default settings are fine. If it says something like "connect to the internet and download x" just say yes, this will take some time.

Installing:

  • DO NOT PLUG IN AN ETHERNET CABLE, plug the USB in and boot from it. Install Windows normally, turn off all the Microsoft spy shit if it asks you. If it tells you to connect to a network say I don't have internet.
  • Once installed and you're on the desktop plug in an ethernet cable or connect to Wi-Fi, you might need to install your Wi-Fi card drivers.
  • Unplug the USB
  • Open settings and do all the Windows updates
  • Then once they're done do your graphics drivers

BIOS:

  • Boot into BIOS and turn on XMP/A-XMP
  • Turn on CPU Virtualization if you need to
  • Turn on Secure Boot (most games with anti-cheats need this)

Make your Windows setup not shit:

brave-debloater.reg Under Assets for the latest version - Once it's downloaded double click it, this will turn off all the dogshit the browser ships with

  • Do NOT sign into a Microsoft account on Windows, ever. No matter how much it tells you to.
  • If you want you can mess around with your Nvidia 3D settings but this doesn't do as much as it used to many years ago.
  • LibreHardwareMonitor portable is nice to see if your temps are okay and you installed your CPU properly.
  • Make sure you have duel/quad channel setup properly for your RAM
  • Make sure you set your refresh rate
  • Make sure you set your mouse sens

Extras:

  • If you're on a laptop:
    • Setup Bitlocker (on Windows)
    • Set a BIOS supervisor password
    • Disable any cloud related shit your laptop has
    • Setup the TPM so it works with Bitlocker, this should normally be done for you if you just enable everything
    • Tamper Evidence is good if your laptop has it

  • Keep your computer running well:

    • Download portable apps when you can, not installers. Over time they clog the Windows registery editor and leave shit everywhere
    • Don't install any anti-virus programs
    • Try not to install programs to drives that aren't your boot drive, Steam games are fine here but don't do it with programs.

Recommended stuff:

  • Don't use any commercial VPN outside of Mullvad, Proton is okay as well.
  • BitWarden is a good password manager. Use a different password for everything, it will manage them for you.
  • Prism Launcher is every Minecraft modded client in one and is open source.
  • qBitTorrent is a good torrent client.
  • Use email prefixing when signing up to stuff. This is a little CBA for most people but if you're signing up to some garbage like Shein or Temu you should do it.

    These all go to the same inbox but they're technically seperate addresses from the server provider's perspective. So if your shit ends up in a data leak or gets sold off to someone you can block that specific email address.

  • Single-use throw-away email accounts can be made with https://temp-mail.org/en/ if you don't want to use your actual email for some garbage.
  • Never, ever, ever give your phone number to something if you don't need to, EVER. If it gets sold (which it will) you WILL get scam/spam SMS's and random calls where they call, say nothing and then hang up (this is to see if the number is valid/ a real person) for the rest of eternity and there's nothing you can do about it.
  • Never, ever, ever give your digitalID or face scan to anything. If they won't let you view it without it VPN to New Zealand.
